Labour Group Leader Councillor Alex Ganotis said ‘Ahead of the local elections on 5th May I’m delighted to introduce Labour’s contract with Stockport which shows how we will invest to grow the local economy, protect the vital local services which the Council delivers, and provide the opportunities which local people deserve.
‘Our plan will deliver the affordable homes, outstanding schools, integrated healthcare, improved transport, cleaner streets and safer neighbourhoods that everybody wants to see.
‘Labour is ready to meet the challenges Stockport faces, and our 2016 Manifesto demonstrates that we are the only local political party with the fresh ideas and ambition needed locally.’
Stockport Labour Group has pledged to transform the local economy with a new investment fund to attract business to Stockport, integrate health and social care to provide joined-up care for patients, and to provide discounted bus travel to improve accessibility.
Labour will provide opportunities for local school leavers through a youth guarantee, build genuinely affordable homes through a publically-owned construction company, reform our local democracy to engage better with residents, and invest in parks and greenspaces.
Councillor Ganotis added ‘A Labour Council will work for and respond to the needs of all local people, something which is more important than ever in light of the cuts being imposed on Stockport by the Government.
‘Labour stands ready to offer political leadership and new ideas which residents demand and which will be vital if the Council is to provide the service levels they expect in the future. We are, and always will be, on the side of local people and committed to Stockport.’
Labour Councils across the Country are leading the way on innovation in their communities, whether through the implementation of a living wage, attracting new inward investment, raising educational attainment amongst young people, developing new homes to tackle housing shortages, or transforming their local environments.
