Aurora Launch Brings New Jobs, Skills and Services to Stockport

This week saw the official opening of the Stockport’s new £12million industrial park, Aurora, with the opening event being attended by residents, businesses, Councillors and guests.

The industrial units, located in Edgeley and Cheadle Health ward, are almost fully tenanted, with the announcement of the occupation of an additional two units only this week. 83% of the units in the park are now either occupied or under offer.

This means new jobs and services have been brought to Stockport, with the rent going back into Council coffers.

Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, Cllr Kate Butler, added:

“I was pleased to welcome new tenants and guests at the official launch of Aurora this week, which was well-attended and deservedly so.

“The project really is win-win for the Council and for residents and is a great example of our Brownfield first approach. I’m pleased to see rents holding up well in comparison with similar units at the airport and welcome steadily rising occupancy rates.

“We have also worked hard to ensure the benefits of this investment can reach the whole community. This is reflective of our focus on inclusive growth, skills and shared benefits which is at the heart of Labour’s approach to economic regeneration in Stockport.”

At the event, Stockport’s Chair of Planning and Cllr for Edgeley and Cheadle Heath, Philip Harding, explained how this will affect the area:

“The opening of this new industrial park is transformative in terms of the employment opportunities it offers.

“We have worked closely with the contractor, Seddon, to take opportunities to invest in the local community, including the provision of new picnic benches in Alexandra Park and significant upgrading of the Rose Walker Community Centre.

“We have also seen a new riverside footpath with landscaping and considerable highways improvements, including a new traffic-light crossing on Stockport Road.

“This development has been and will continue to be good for Edgeley and Cheadle Heath and Stockport”.
