Candidate Profile: David Meller for Cheadle Hulme North

This week our profile is on Cheadle Hulme North candidate: David Meller.

Since becoming your Cheadle Hulme North Labour candidate in January 2017 David has been busy around the ward – having spoken to thousands of residents, addressing their concerns and taking action – from replacing road signs, reporting anti-social behaviour, or putting together teams to monitor speeding around schools to improve road safety.

Originally from Edgeley, David has a background working in education providing research and helping students achieve their potential. David therefore brings background of community involvement, organisational skills, and knowledge of education – all strong assets he brings to your local Labour team.

Speaking about why he wants to be your Cheadle Hulme North Councillor, David said:

“I’m delighted to be standing for Labour and the Co-operative Party in Cheadle Hulme North – a key seat Stockport Labour has to win to keep control of Stockport Council.  If elected, I want to ensure the Council keeps great local communities – such as we have here – at the heart of its decision-making.

“I was raised two minutes from Cheadle Hulme. I am passionate about this area, its communities and personalities.   As your Councillor, I want to bring politics closer to people.

“From keeping residents informed about contentious planning applications, such as the Laurus Trust schools, to seeking views on the lack of public transport, I will work hard on behalf of everyone in Cheadle Hulme North.”

Outlining his priorities for Cheadle Hulme North, David explained:

“My priorities for Cheadle Hulme North are building strengthened, safer and greener communities.

“Details of what this means and the steps I will take toward this are available on my website – and these plans do not come alone. I will also be prioritising better transport links for the Ward, and work with the new Metropolitan Mayor to ensure our residents are not left behind. “

On why voting for Labour is important, David said:

“I was the first in my family to go to university and understand the struggles faced by many to get on. Labour stands up for people like me, and is also the only party serious about making a difference for Stockport and the people and communities of Cheadle Hulme North.

“Across Stockport, Labour is taking action to ensure our communities benefit from economic growth, but also that this benefits everybody and the barriers people face to jobs, skills and advancement are addressed.

“I want to play my part in continuing this strong record, and provide a strong Labour voice on behalf of residents in Cheadle Hulme North. “
