Cheaper, Greener, Safer: Stockport Labour’s Streetlighting Investment Lights The Way

Stockport’s Labour Executive has given the green light to an ambitious energy saving programme of investment in Stockport’s street lights and electrical street furniture which will help save money, and the environment.

The improvements will see LED lights installed across Stockport over a 3 year period for street lights and a further two years to include all other illuminated street furniture in the Borough.
The improved lighting will also allow for better public safety and reduce fear of street crime through improving lighting levels and allowing more effective use of CCTV systems.

This is a green initiative that not only reduces energy usage, reduces the time and cost of maintenance but is forecast to reduce the current annual CO2 emissions associated with street lighting by an estimated 33%.

Stockport Labour’s Executive member for Communities and Housing, Sheila Bailey said;

“This is an invest to save proposal which will benefit residents across Stockport.

“This initiative is one of several that show our determination to improve our environment through investing in parks, promoting the Stockport-wide spring clean, drawing up plans for a massive recycling campaign for the autumn and now investing in LED lighting.

“All these green initiatives are long overdue. They will make Stockport an even better place to live and work, and we are committed to continuing investment in all areas of the Borough. “
