CLAIM: Brownfield First approach “can’t cash cheques”

In a blog posting, the Liberal Democrat Leader has criticised Labour’s ‘brownfield first’ approach to finding development sites as ‘writing cheques it cant cash’.

REALITY: Stockport’s successful Brownfield First approach enters new era with Labour innovation

Stockport can boast a success rate of over 90% development on Brownfield sites, a policy advanced by the Liberal Democrats when in control. Labour’s Executive member for regeneration has extended the identification of brownfield sites to the public through a new online portal.

The Liberal Leader’s comments are particularly interesting given in March full Council he declared Labour’s ‘Brownfield First’ report “good”, stating he  was “in favour” of this, while another Liberal Cllr noted Labour’s “suggestion of doing brownfield sites first….(was)… very useful, practical stuff.”
