Andy Burnham and Dan Oliver light up a grey day with some important discussions on Offerton and its future. Shaun Freeman writes:
As always, whenever anything significant is planned the rain seems to follow! However, both the Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, and Dan Oliver, Labour’s candidate in Offerton, embraced the British weather to discuss some of the key issues affecting the Offerton community.
Dan wasted no time in addressing the issue of Stagecoach’s potential changes to the 314 bus service around the Offerton estate. He highlighted just how essential transport links are for local people and how without them older people, families and workers may find it harder to move around the area.
Andy Burnham was quick to show his support for this element of Dan’s campaign, stating:
“From my point of view bus services need to improve in Greater Manchester. We can’t have a situation where services are taken away from estates such as this.”
Andy recognised that this service is integral to the local community and agreed that he would work with Dan by “formally raising the issue with Stagecoach”.
Back inside Offerton Library, high on Dan’s agenda was discussing the problem of anti-social behavior in the area.
He comments: “It’s a concern that many residents have talked to me about and I’ll make addressing it a top priority if I’m elected as an Offerton councillor on Thursday 3rd May.”
