Grand Central Leisure has now opened new and improved gym changing rooms, thanks to investment from Stockport’s Labour-run Council. We’ve had a sneak preview of the new facilities which look much improved and very smart indeed.
New facilities include already-opened and fully modernised gymnasium and shower facilities, which will be followed by new ‘health spa’ facilities. Being completed now, these will include a sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy pool, aromatherapy room and a special relaxation area.
Councillor Sheila Bailey, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing, said:
“As soon as we formed an Administration we looked into why valued leisure facilities such as Grand Central had fallen into disrepair. Amazingly, the previous administration had made no allowances for the upkeep of these centres.
“Because of this, not only had there been a fall in standards, but some much-valued facilities at Grand Central had become unusable and had to close.
“We immediately took action to address this through a comprehensive renovation of Grand Central as part of over £5m of investments in parks and leisure. I am very pleased to see that Grand Central is being returned to the standard of quality provision Stockport residents should be able to expect.”
