LABOUR ANNOUNCES REAL LIVING WAGE UPLIFT FOR CARE WORKERS

Stockport Labour have announced an uplift in the money available to care providers for the next financial year, which will allow an increase to the basic pay rate to meet the ‘real living wage’ standard of £9 per hour.

The significant move, which will apply to care providers in Stockport from April 2019, will also cover extended hours of care. This reflects Labour’s commitment to Dignity in Care and care workers, who care for some of our most vulnerable residents.

The uplift applies to providers across Residential and Nursing Care Homes, and Homecare provision offered within an individual’s home, in Stockport.  The plans were approved by Stockport’s Labour Cabinet at the Tuesday 5th February meeting.

Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Lead for Adult Social Care, Cllr Wendy Wild said:

“Despite all the funding constraints we face as a Council, Labour is putting the care of our most vulnerable residents at the forefront of what we are doing.

“Not only this, but we are ensuring we value those who provide care, and that their valuable work is recognised with the real living wage.

“We are delivering on the Ethical Care framework we signed up to in 2017, a proud achievement which has only happened due to a Labour Administration here in Stockport.”
