Councillor Wendy Wild has been elected as the new Deputy Leader of Stockport Labour Group.
Following news of her election at a Labour Group meeting on 17th November, Coun. Wild said ‘I am delighted that my colleagues have given me the opportunity to serve the people of Stockport as Deputy Leader of the Labour Group, it is a great honour.
‘The local elections next May are hugely important for our borough and my main priority will now be to demonstrate to residents that they deserve better than the lack of leadership which Liberal Democrats have shown for the last 20 years.
‘I will be promoting the clear alternative Labour offers for Stockport, as well as holding the Executive to account for how they are salami-slicing £18 million from frontline services this year rather than making the fundamental reforms which this Council needs.’
She added ‘I would like to give my thanks on behalf of the entire Labour Group to my predecessor Councillor Walter Brett who has left Stockport Labour in a strong position.’
Coun. Alex Ganotis, Leader of the Labour Group, said ‘The ideas, energy and commitment which Wendy will bring as our new Deputy Leader will be incredibly valuable. She is an outstanding public servant, and that focus will serve her well at a crucial time for Stockport.’
‘The hard work that Wendy has brought to the Council in representing Davenport and Cale Green has shown how dedicated she is to improving the lives of the people in Stockport.’
The election of Councillor Wild follows the resignation of Councillor Walter Brett for personal reasons on 6th October.
