Labour Manifesto Launches With 50 Point Plan for Stockport

To mark the official calling of this year’s local elections in Stockport, we are launching our May 2018 manifesto.

New investment in play and sports facilities for our parks, increased funding in children’s and family services, plans for a new council-owned children’s home, and an ambition to help create a worker-owned co-operative care organisation – this is just a snapshot of our ambitious 50 point plan for Stockport.

Our plan is made up of 50 pledges covering nine priority areas of council policy: economy and regeneration; housing and communities; jobs and skills; early years; education; the environment; health and social care; council reform, and support for young people.

Leader of Stockport Labour Group and Leader of the Council, Cllr Alex Ganotis comments:

“This manifesto sets out our vision for how Labour will support a growing Stockport economy which benefits everyone.

“We have shown over the last two years that Labour is the party of competent local government in Stockport. We’ve achieved a lot in a short time and are proud of our record of investing in the future of the borough, protecting services in the face of financial adversity and promoting a vibrant and thriving local economy.

“But this is just the start. Our manifesto shows we’re serious about the future of Stockport. We want to continue our record of progress and we want the people of Stockport to know about the strength of our commitment to them.

“The feedback I have had so far on the manifesto has been highly positive. And not just from Labour activists who will be campaigning on this platform but from a wide range of people I meet who appreciate the detail and ambitions we are putting forward.

“This document is not only a statement of our intentions. It shows Labour is the only party which is serious about Stockport. We are planning for the future and we are here for the long term for the benefit of everyone in Stockport.”
