Labour selects new team to stand up for Stockport

Stockport Labour Group has elected a new team of ‘Shadow Spokespeople’ to stand up for Stockport as the Lib Dem Council delivers £80million of cuts to services.

The Labour Group’s new team is a blend of experience, new talent and contains more women than the ruling Lib Dem’s Executive. The elected Shadow Spokespeople are as follows:

Cllr Alex Ganotis – Shadow Spokesperson for Policy, Reform & Finance
Cllr Kate Butler – Shadow Spokesperson for Corporate, Customer and Community Services
Cllr Colin Foster – Shadow Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning and Achievement
Cllr Sheila Bailey – Shadow Spokesperson for Communities and Sustainability
Cllr Wendy Wild – Shadow Spokesperson for Adult Care Services
Cllr Laura Booth – Shadow Spokesperson for Children and Young People
Cllr Tom McGee – Shadow Spokesperson for Health and Wellbeing
Cllr Dave Sedgwick – Shadow Spokesperson for Economic Development and Regeneration

The Spokespeople will also be joined in the Labour Group’s ‘Shadow Cabinet’ by Group Leader, Cllr Andy Verdeille, and Deputy Group Leader, Cllr Philip Harding.

Labour Group Leader, Cllr Andy Verdeille, commented on the new team, saying: “In the past year the Labour Group has been instrumental in delivering some real successes for Stockport, such as the Living Wage, help for first-time buyers, bringing the Council’s care assistants back in-house and successfully campaigning for Lib Dem plans to cut free school transport to be dropped.

“With this new team of committed and energetic councillors, we will stand up for Stockport and build towards next year’s local elections in May. I am really pleased that our top team has brought forward new talent and that women are equally represented.

“Stockport’s Lib Dems have failed to stand up for Stockport against the devastating policies of their Government. It’s left to the Labour Party in Stockport to deliver the change that we need and the elections can’t come soon enough.”
