Newly-launched Stockport Local Fund, begun this July, is making £1 million in grants available for local Community organisations. The initiative provides support to community organisations to help build stronger communities, active lifestyles, and prevent isolation.
The first funding bid window opened on the 9th July and will remain open until Sunday 5th August. Interested organisations and groups can apply on the council website here. Community groups can put forward bids for funding between £200 and £10,000 per project, for local activities and projects that help people come together and make our neighbourhoods an even better place to live in.
The Stockport Local Fund is based on the desire to build even stronger communities – one of Labour’s core values – and as such form another of Labours manifesto pledges promised and delivered by the Stockport Labour administration.
Cabinet Member for Reform and Governance, Cllr Elise Wilson added:
“The local fund is a key initiative as part of our plans to reform the way the Council works within communities.
“We are investing £1 million in community groups; not just because of the work they do, but also because they promote active lifestyles, skills and cohesive communities. This has both economic and social benefits, and so fits squarely within this Council’s broader inclusive growth agenda.
“Strong communities and community groups also act to reduce social problems, through promoting mental and physical wellbeing, and contribute to our wider aim to reduce demand upon Council services, and therefore potential costs passed to taxpayers.
“This is why I believe Stockport Local Fund represents a win-win for all involved, and I’m pleased to see it being so positively received”
