We note that the Liberal Democrats have sent a misleading email quoting Independent Offerton Councillor Laura Booth’s intention to support the LibDem candidate in the General Election in Hazel Grove.
Sheila Townsend, chair of Hazel Grove Labour Party, said, “We are receiving a growing volume of responses from residents angry at what they regard as deliberately misleading letters and e-mails. These letters and e-mails purport to have some connection with Labour. Like many other apparently unbranded communications that have been flooding our letterboxes recently, these are part of a desperate and unscrupulous LibDem campaign to pull the wool over the eyes of the Hazel Grove electorate.”
Laura Booth is no longer a member of the Labour Party and backed out of fighting this general election campaign in September 2014. However, she also continues to use social media with the name “Offerton Labour”. This is also misleading.
Councillor Alex Ganotis, leader of Stockport Labour Group, adds, “We are fully in support of the lively campaign run by the Labour team in Hazel Grove and led by the candidate Michael Taylor. His approach has brought a breath of fresh air into the campaign, the party and the hundreds of volunteers who have responded to the negative campaigning of the Liberal Democrats by joining a grass roots community campaign full of energy and ideas.”
