Open+ opens door of opportunity to Stockport Libraries

Stockport Labour are encouraged by growing membership of Open+ as latest figures show 2,549 customers have signed up.

Open+ allows member’s access to Bramhall, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, Heatons, High Lane and Marple libraries using a card and pin device, providing access outside of the regular staffed hours.

The feature is an essential for many modern lifestyles – for both individuals and community organisations, creating an opportunity for those who would not be able to attend during normal opening hours and offering flexibility within the service in a way that best meets the need of the community and the space.

All residents need to register is a library card and ID that displays their address.

Cllr Tom McGee, the Cabinet Member for Resources, Commissioning and Governance, commented:

“What we are seeing in Stockport is a commitment and an investment in our libraries to keep them open, accessible and fit for modern society. Residents are responding to the way libraries can be used and finding value in a service they may not have been able to use before.

This is stark contrast to many other Local Authorities who being forced to close or consider closing their libraries.”
