With polling day rapidly approaching, we caught up with our candidate for Cheadle Hulme North, Rachel Wise, to see how campaigning in one of the country’s most marginal wards is going.
“We have such a strong, positive story to tell about the huge difference a Labour council has meant to the whole of Stockport since first winning control just three short years ago and I think people really get how important a second Labour councillor in Cheadle Hulme North is.
“As well as sharing the highlights of our 2019 manifesto, I’m taking time to discuss my own three point plan for Cheadle Hulme North. My plan is based on hundreds of conversations Cllr David Meller and I have had with local people.
“Firstly, I pledge to support people who look after others. Unpaid carers are often unsung heroes and can often feel isolated. If elected on Thursday, I will set up Carers’ Circle to get together regularly for mutual support and to share experiences and knowledge.
“Secondly, I want to build on the success of David’s Cheadle Hulme North Community Hub by making sure we have Friends Groups for local parks and ensure the ward gets all funding it can so everyone can enjoy our open spaces.
“And last but not least, public transport in this area does not meet our residents. I will lobby hard for better connectivity, campaign for a better bus service, and continue our campaign for an East Didsbury Metrolink shuttle service.
“I’m really proud of the difference a Labour council has made to Stockport and possibly even more proud of the difference a Labour councillor in Cheadle Hulme North! I know that David and I will make a great team putting the needs of our community front and centre every time.”
