Stockport Council working hard to improve public transport links.
Stockport Council secures initial funding for a rapid transit bus scheme, which will improve transport links between Stockport and Manchester Airport.
Stockport Councils ambition to create a new rapid transit bus scheme between Stockport and Manchester Airport has moved a step closer after successfully drawing up on money from the Governments Housing Infrastructure Fund.
The bid is part of a working in partnership between Stockport Council, Cheshire East Council, Manchester City Council, Manchester Airport Group, Transport for Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. The groups shared vision is to developing a fast and frequent rapid bus service, reducing pollution and congestion and as an alternative to commuting by car, in order for residents and businesses to travel between their homes and key employment locations.
Stockport Councils bid is one of 44 schemes due to be submitted to the Government over the coming months with a decision due to be made in the autumn.
Cllr Kate Butler, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said:
“The rapid transit bus scheme is one of the many initiatives Stockport Council is focusing on as part of our commitment to improve the infrastructure in our borough. If we can provide a faster, safer way to travel through Stockport while simultaneously tackling congestion and pollution then we are only going to enhance Stockport’s reputation as a great place to live, work and invest.”
