Stockport Labour Group supports the joint decision of event organisers Seven Miles Out and Stockport Council to not run this month’s Foodie Friday which was due to take place this week.
Following the devastation of Monday’s terrorist attack in central Manchester, we commend Seven Miles Out for taking a responsible approach to town centre safety at a time when police resources are stretched to the very limit.
Like so many others, we are of the mind that when terrorists strike we do not give in to them – we stand up to them. We are also mindful, however, of the deep connection going back decades between the Seven Miles Out team and Manchester’s entertainment and music industry, and that that connection and sense of loss is shared by many who help to bring Foodie Friday to life.
We shall all find our own way to come to terms with what happened at the heart of a city we are proud to call a friend and neighbour and respect others’ choices in their actions and responses.
We look forward to joining the vibrant crowds when Foodie Friday returns to Stockport Marketplace on June 30th.
