Statement on Misrepresentations Regarding SMBC Waste Policies

Cllr Sheila Bailey, Stockport MBC Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, on behalf of Stockport Labour Group, writes:

I have been made aware of a claim made by Liberal Democrat candidate in Cheadle Hulme North which is clearly disingenuous. Claire is, apparently, proposing to ‘stand up’ against a Labour proposal which does not exist – namely the spurious notion we have plans to go to three weekly bin collections. This was considered nearly two years ago, was the subject of wide consultation, a spare capacity survey, which I asked to be done, and discussion at the scrutiny committee. On the basis of evidence, the proposal was dismissed and hasn’t been considered since.

In the same communication, Claire Halliwell has also referred to our plans to increase parking charges by 10 pence. Electors need to know that I have received absolutely no representations from Claire regarding the proposals, no emails, no contact, no suggestions, no alternative proposals put forward – unlike the contact I had from councillors in Marple, Romiley and Bramhall. Perhaps Claire might be advised that the democratic process offers greater scope for ‘standing up’ on issues than just being photographed next to ticket machines in various car parks.
