Stockport’s improvement in the quality of Social Care provision has been described as ‘amazing’ by GM Health and Social Care chief, Jon Rouse.
The Chief Officer of the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership was noting findings showing care provided by the Labour ran-Local Authority and partners has been rated either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ and well above national averages. The comments follow a Quarter 1 Care Quality Commission assurance meeting in Stockport chaired by Mr Rouse on Tuesday, July 22nd. These findings represent a significant turnaround from two years previous where provision was rated amongst the worst in the country.
A recent Care Quality Commission review found there was ‘a well-defined strategic vision that was designed to meet the specific needs of Stockport residents’, leading Dr Steve Field, Chief Inspector of Primary Care Services, to comment that ‘the system in Stockport had a clear ambition to work together and a connected ambition to work within the wider Greater Manchester conurbation’.
The turnaround is the result of a more efficient Health and Social Care economy, resulting from all partners working positively together on behalf of Stockport residents.
Commenting, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Jude Wells said;
“It is highly welcome to have the efforts of all who have worked towards improving Social Care provision recognised in this way. Jon Rouse is noting a clear change in the approach we are taking in Stockport, working together towards clear and common objectives.
“The people of Stockport deserve no less than good or outstanding services, and it is great news for service users that we are now able to deliver that.
“However, there remains much work to do to achieve the potential of joint working, in terms of efficiencies that can be delivered, and in terms of the difference this can make for those receiving care and those who provide it.
“I look forward to working with all partners involved to build upon our progress so far, for the benefit of those which rely upon these important services. “
