Stockport schools lead the way in getting the borough more active

The Daily Mile campaign hit a new landmark recently with 36 schools in Stockport now signed up.

The “Smile for a Mile” involves children walking, running or jogging, outside around the school playground or perimeter every day in addition to their existing sporting curricular activities. In some schools parents are also been encouraged to take part.

Following the announcement that Greater Manchester has committed itself to become the world’s first Daily Mile city region, Greater Manchester has now set a target for all schools, nurseries, universities and work places to adopt The Daily Mile.

Cllr Dean Fitzpatrick, Cabinet Member for Education, said:

“I am delighted by the enthusiasm of schools and children taking part in the Daily Mile campaign. Not only are our children increasing their fitness levels but children’s concentration levels have also improved. I would like to thank all those helping make this happen.”
