Unlocking Stockport’s Potential

Labour’s vision for Stockport centres on unlocking the enormous potential of the borough following the confirmation of a new Leader of the Council on Tuesday 24th May.

Labour Leader of Stockport Council Alex Ganotis said ‘Labour will have unlocking the enormous economic and social potential of Stockport as our key focus running through every decision which the Council takes under our leadership.

‘Stockport is a fantastic place to live and work and your Labour Council will attract investment to boost our local economy, bring new jobs to the borough, and equip residents with the skills they need to take advantage of that growth.

‘In addition to our fantastic physical infrastructure, which includes great transport links, innovative businesses and a town with amazing heritage, Labour is highlighting the talented and creative population who work and live here and who make our borough a really attractive place to invest in.’

Local elections on 5th May saw an energetic, dynamic and fresh Labour team elected to take over from Liberal Democrats with a sustained record of failure which included a series of missed opportunities to attract investment into Stockport.

Councillor Ganotis added ‘The new Labour Executive for Stockport is highly competent and will ensure economic responsibility and common sense run throughout decision-making.

‘At a time when some tough decisions are going to be needed due to the Government imposing cuts on Stockport, Labour is committed to ensuring that fairness is at the heart of the provision of our local public services.

‘As Leader I also want residents to feel that the Council listens to their views and is responsive to what they are saying, and so a key part of the new Labour administration will be reforming our democracy and improving how we consult with local people.

‘This is the difference Labour will make for Stockport.’

Councillor Ganotis was formally confirmed as the Leader of Stockport Council at the Annual Meeting of Stockport Council on Tuesday 24th May.
