Veteran Councillor to Step Down

Veteran Labour Councillor, Dave White, has announced that he is to step down from the Council at next year’s local elections.

Dave was re-selected by Davenport and Cale Green Labour Party members to fight the elections next year, but due to work commitments, Dave has decided to step down from the Council.

Cllr Dave White said: “Due to work commitments I’ve taken the difficult decision to step down from the Council at the elections in May next year. I’m proud of my achievements during the 17 years that I’ve been on the Council and I will continue to work for my community after I step down. I’ll be campaigning hard to support the Labour candidate in Davenport and Cale Green in 2014 as we must keep the Lib Dem stooges of the Government out.”

Cllr Andy Verdeille, Leader of the Labour Group, said: “Dave has been a giant of Stockport politics for over 17 years and he will be sorely missed. I know Dave will continue to work tirelessly for his ward for the remainder of his time on the Council.”

Local Labour Party members will select a new candidate to stand in the May 2014 local elections in the next few weeks.
